Feeding the Body, Anchoring the Soul
Hunger is a signal. It tells the body that it lacks what is necessary to survive. But there's a deeper hunger that often goes ignored—a spiritual starvation that no amount of bread can satisfy.
At Word of Grace Ministry, we understand that a person on the streets needs physical warmth and food. But we also know that meeting a physical need while ignoring the eternal soul is a tragedy. Our Homeless Outreach ministry is designed to address both, with a foundation focus on giving these men and women the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We extend grace because we have received mercy. We do not deserve the standing we have with God; it was given to us. Therefore, it is our duty to extend that same grace to our neighbors who do not have that mercy.
A Gospel-Filled Backpack
The core of our outreach is the distribution of backpacks filled with Gospel resources. This is not just a bag of supplies; it is a portable library of truth. We pack these bags with high-quality theological resources intended to give the recipient a great deal of truth that can wrestle through.
Inside every backpack, we provide the tools for spiritual construction:
The Scripture
A focused book containing The Four Gospels. This allows the reader to hear directly from the life and words of Jesus Christ.
The Doctrine
A copy of The Gospel of Jesus Christ by Paul Washer. This book cuts through cultural confusion to explain the true weight and glory of the Cross.
The Invitation
Our standard tract, Please Consider, which challenges the reader to stop and consider that there is a God and we are accountable to Him.
The Digital Key
We recognize that carrying heavy books is not always easy for those on the move. That is why every backpack includes a specialized Bible Keychain.
This simple tool contains a QR code that acts as a universal key. When scanned, it opens a digital door to the Bible in any language and any translation. It allows the user to read the text, listen to the audio, or watch visual presentations of the Scripture. It ensures that the Word of God is accessible to everyone, regardless of reading level or native tongue.
resource board
Accessible Truth
In addition to the backpacks, we maintain a permanent Resource Stand for the community. This wooden station serves as a supply depot for the soul.
It is stocked with tracts, booklets, and resources like Good Teacher or God Incarnate? and From Darkness to Light. It stands available for anyone to take what they need, when they need it. It is a silent witness, offering answers to the hardest questions of life, 24 hours a day.
providing food
Serving at Bethel House
Once a month, Rev. Stephens and the WoGM team step into the kitchen at Bethel House, our local shelter. We prepare and serve meals to those in need.
This work is simple, but it's serious. It's an act of service that builds a bridge. By meeting the immediate, physical need for a hot meal, we're able to speak into the greater need. It demonstrates that the care we preach is real and tangible.
why we do it
A Pathway to Stability
Our goal is never just to hand out a tract and walk away. We want to see lives rebuilt.
In addition to our materials is an invitation to join the Basic Bible Course—the same rigorous, structured discipleship program used in our Prison Ministry. We believe that the same Gospel that bring freedom to a prisoner can bring stability to the homeless.
We offer the map. We offer the tools. We offer the Bread of Life to those who are hungry for more than just a meal.
