The Sanctuary at the Bedside
The church is not just a building, it is a people. However, age and physical limits often cut people off from the gathering they love. When a believer can no longer walk through the church doors, the church must walk through theirs.
Word of Grace Ministry refuses to let the elderly be forgotten. We view the believers in nursing homes and retirement centers of Western North Carolina not as an obligation, but as congregations, ready to worship the Lord.
Our team provides weekly services to multiple facilities. We do not offer mere entertainment. We bring the full gravity and joy of a Sunday service directly to the residents. We turn the cafeteria or the activity room into a house of worship.
The Preaching of the Word
We don't water down the truth because the audience is older. We open the Bible and preach the Gospel with clarity. For many residents, this is their only source of biblical teaching.
We treat them with the dignity they deserve, speaking to their minds and their spirits. We remind them that their race is not yet finished, and the promises of God are still in effect for His people.
The Theology of Hymns
Music is a powerful tool for the mind. Even when memory fades, the lyrics of the old hymns often remain. We lead the residents in singing the great hymns of the faith. These songs are full of doctrine. When we sing A Mighty Fortress Is Our God or It Is Well With My Soul, we are reinforcing the foundations of their faith.
Fellowship and Presence
Isolation is a heavy burden. Many residents have few visitors. By showing up every week, same time, same place, we offer stability. We shake hands, we listen, and we pray. This contact reminds them that they're a part of the Body of Christ.
why we go
The Soul Does Not Retire
Society often pushes the elderly to the margins and tries to forget about them. We bring them back to the center.
We believe that spiritual growth should continue until the very last breath. The nursing and retirement home ministry is about helping these men and women finish the race with faith and assurance. It's about providing spiritual support for the final miles of the journey.
